The ECMHOF peoples voice awards are chosen by our voting Ambassador and Supporter Members;

Recognizing the very best of our music makers & producers today! The very best of today’s new talent and the music providers who represent all genres of music that continue the musical legacy of the 40s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s Rock & Roll generations. This award is chosen by The ECMHOF People’s Voice via voting ambassador members.

ECMHOF  Nomination Process;

  • Our Lifetime Achievement Inductees are selected by our Board Of Directors.
  • The nominating process for The Legends Awards and Best Music Makers Awards starts with our Ambassador members only.
  • All Ambassador Nominations- should be emailed to nomination.ecmhof@gmail.com  and “must be accompanied by a  picture and short bio” and contact information. 
  • Submissions for nomination end November 7th of each year.
  • Once all nominations have been put into their respective categories our nominations committee select the final (10) nominees for each category to be voted on by our Ambassador and Supporter members.
  • Members with an email address will receive  a one time  Emailed Voting Link.  
  •  A Paper Voting Ballot can be requested and sent to your mailing address which then must be returned to- VOTE.ECMHOF, 65 River Road, suite-104, Nutley, New Jersey, 07110; .. (Voting begins November 8th. and ends April 30th of each year).
  • The final results for the Legends Awards categories will be announced and celebrated at our Annual ECMHOF Awards Gala (date & location to be announced soon) for 2020. Best Music Makers Awards will be announced at our Pre-Gala VIP party.
  • All nominees must be from the New England Region, Mid Atlantic Region and South East Region of the East Coast as specified above.
  • Nominees in the top 4 results of each category will be placed back into nomination for our Ambassador Voting process the following year.
  • All Nominations- should be emailed to nomination.ecmhof@gmail.com  and “must be accompanied by a  picture and short bio” and contact information.

Legends Award Criteria;
  • Legend Male Soloist/Lead Singer – Top 100 Billboard 1950’s through the 1970’s / Male soloist or primary lead singer of a vocal group that had at least one Top 100 Chart Record or equivalent [1] between 1950 and 1979, as verified by the major trade magazines Billboard or Cash Box. Had to have sung lead on said chart record(s). [1] During certain years, some genre charts either didn’t exist or were limited to the Top 10 or Top 25.  In those cases evidence of record sales, such as territorial charts can be used as an equivalent to chart position.
  • Legend Female Soloist /Lead Singer Male – Top 100 Billboard 1950’s through the 1970’sFemale soloist or primary lead singer of a vocal group that had at least one Top 100 Chart Record or equivalent [1] between 1950 and 1979, as verified by the major trade magazines Billboard or Cash Box.  Had to have sung lead on said chart record(s). [1] During certain years, some genre charts either didn’t exist or were limited to the Top 10 or Top 25.  In those cases evidence of record sales, such as territorial charts can be used as an equivalent to chart position.
  • Legend Vocalist – Performed with Top 100 Billboard GroupLead or backup singer, male or female, who sang with a vocal group that had at least one Top 100 Chart Record or equivalent [1] between 1950 and 1979, as verified by the major trade magazines Billboard or Cash Box.  Did not have to have sung on said chart record(s). [1] During certain years, some genre charts either didn’t exist or were limited to the Top 10 or Top 25.  In those cases evidence of record sales, such as territorial charts can be used as an equivalent to chart position.
  • Legend Vocal Group – R&B/Soul, 1960 – 1979 / Vocal group of substantial importance that sang and recorded during the 1960’s and 1970’s in the genre of R&B/Soul music.  Group should have demonstrated longevity and significant number of preferably charted recordings.
  • Legend Male Vocal Group – Doo Wop, 1950 – 1979 / Predominately male trio, quartet or quintet that sang in the style of 1950’s doo wop vocal harmony.  Group should have demonstrated longevity and significant number of preferably charted recordings.
  • Legend Female Vocal Group – Doo Wop, 1950 – 1979 / Predominately female trio, quartet or quintet that sang in the style of 1950’s doo wop vocal harmony.  Group should have demonstrated longevity and significant number of preferably charted recordings.
  • Legend Vocal Group – Acapella, 1950’s through the 1990’s / Vocal group that sang doo wop or soul acapella (without musical instruments or tracks) between 1950 and 1999.  Group should have demonstrated longevity and made a significant number of recordings.
  • Legend Band – Rock / Rock band from the 1960’s and/or 1970’s, known through their recorded and live performances.  Band should have demonstrated longevity and made a significant number of recordings.
  • Legend Latin Music / Music artists (group or soloist) who have distinguished themselves in the field of Latin Music.
  • Legend MusicianMusician, male or female, who have distinguished themselves in performances and/or recordings in any of the above categories.
  • Legend Songwriter / Composer / Songwriter or popular music composer who has written or co-written a significant number of charted songs over the course of their career.  As the industry has a history of adding names to writer credits, this award is reserved for the actual writers and composers of the songs.
  • Legend DJ / MC / Radio personalities, who in more than a decade of broadcasting have demonstrated a devotion to their music and had a major impact on the listening audiences in their geographic area.  Legend DJ’s are those who expose their audiences to music that they might not hear elsewhere, thereby preserving our music’s legacy.

Best Music Maker Awards Criteria;
  • Best Music Maker Singer Male  / Male solo singer actively engaged in performing fifties, sixties or seventies genres of music.
  • Best Music Maker Singer Female  / Female solo singer actively engaged in performing fifties, sixties or seventies genres of music.
  • Best Music Maker Musician  / Musician actively engaged in performing fifties, sixties or seventies genres of music
  • Best Music Maker R&B, Soul, Disco  / Group or band actively engaged in performing sixties or seventies R&B, Soul or Disco music.
  • Best Music Maker Jazz / Blues / Swing / Retro / Group or band actively engaged in performing Jazz, Blues, Swing or Retro music.
  • Best Music Maker Latin / Group or band actively engaged in performing Latin music.
  • Best Music Maker Tribute Band Group, / and or soloist actively performing primarily the songs of one popular group or artist of the fifties, sixties or seventies.
  • Best Music Maker Cover Band / Best Group or band actively performing the popular songs of sixties or seventies.
  • Best Music Maker Vocal Group / Doo Wop  Vocal group actively engaged in performing 1950’s doo wop music backed by a live band or music tracks.
  • Best Music Maker Vocal Group / Acapella Vocal group actively engaged in performing 1950’s doo wop music primarily acapella (without musical accompaniment).
  • Best Music Maker DJ / Web Personality / Broadcasting Host of a regular Radio or Internet Radio Broadcast of self programed fifties, sixties or seventies popular music.
  • Best Music Maker Publication / Website/ Editors and publishers of print or electronic newsletter or magazine issued at least four times a year and/or maintaining a frequently updated informative website dedicated to distributing relevant information about music genres of the fifties through the seventies.
  • Best Music Maker Historians / Advocates/ Person or persons must not only be top authorities on the history of their chosen music genres but must also be actively involved in the research and preservation of that music as demonstrated through publications, documentaries, liner notes, etc.
  • Best Music Maker Venue/ Venue / most responsible for preserving music from the fifties, sixties and seventies through concerts.

The East Coast Music Hall of Fame is a New Jersey 501c3 non-profit organization. We are a society of music professionals and fans from Maine to Florida dedicated to ensuring the present and future of the Rock and Roll era of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s as well as celebrating the pioneers of this great American musical heritage.

Preserving

Provide a world class Museum Library and home for the pioneers of R&B and the Rock & Roll music generation. To celebrate the recording and performance of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s music with engaging educational programs and extensive Library & Archives. Document and Preserve an American heritage, the music that changed the course of history and politics through the international language of music.

 The ECMHOF Awards Gala with our Lifetime Achievement Awards and Legend Awards honor the finest artists and recordings of the past and present. The Foundation is dedicated to lifting the human spirit in celebration and to shine a spotlight on the human endeavor to persevere, overcome and achieve a lifetime of dedication and performance of excellence by an individual, group or organization of the many art forms and categories of the music industry.

The Best of the Music Makers Awards help today’s aspiring new talent as well as established artists who want to preserve and continue this musical legacy by creating pathways of recognition as well as educational and musical programs to help aspiring artists to succeed.

The East Coast Music Hall Of Fame mission is to bring together under one roof, the resources to honor those who have contributed to East Coast music from the 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s’ and to help inspire future generations to carry on this legacy. The East Coast Music Hall Of Fame Museum & Library aims to be the premier center for the performing and visual arts, inspiring, educating and entertaining through its diverse and engaging offerings and reflecting the diversity of the region. 

As a nonprofit organization, the ECMHOF is committed to creating opportunities for participation and understanding the arts by collaborating with creators, organizations, and schools, and as a catalyst to harnessing the economic vitality of the arts and enriching our region’s quality of life.  In addition, it will serve as a repository for related historical print, audio and video resources essential for future study.
